Microsofts newest operating system is Vista, which comes in three or four versions. But it's such a hog that it won't run on last years boxes without upgrades of memory, processor, and/or graphics cards. Personally I find Windows XP to be just fine. Why should I buy a new computer just to buy the latest operating system from Microsoft?

What are your thoughts? Which operating system do you run? Are you a Linux user? Do you even care about operating systems? :)

Being a developer that specialises in Microsoft technologies, I've been hamstrung by Apple; until they began shifting to Intel processors (and creating the Boot Camp dual-boot option), that is. My next major upgrade cycle when it comes to my development machines will certainly be Macs running Vista and OSX.

Vista is certainly not worth getting (at this point) for the average consumer who is considering an OS upgrade to an older box; but developers, multimedia designers/editors and serious gamers who require the graphics capabilities (and DirectX 10) should make the jump.
