Anyone familiar with Abiword or difficulties viewing microsoft word documents in Abiword? I opened a newsletter (created in MS Word) in Abiword. But it was just a lot of empty mixed-up/overlaid boxes....no text or pictures. I'm trying to set up a new desktop computer with free open source office software for my fiancee. If no-one can help me I will either be hung or forced to buy a retail version of microsoft office. ;-) Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

PS We already have Open Office software suite. The word doc doesn't open correctly in that either. My fiancee enjoys working in MS Word. Hence the effort to find the equivalent in Abiword.

Do a google for Word readers. There are some that will convert certain word docs into other formats. Worst case you'll need to ask the originator to send you a copy in a RTF format or similar....

Thanks Slap. Sorry to take so long to respond. I broke down and bought Microsoft Word. All is well.
