Most everyone remembers from their junior high school science how plants employ photosynthesis; now, it seem that researchers at Dupont, Penn State and Arizona State have developed a way for humans to do the same.

These researchers have created a system where light is used to split water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen molecules...hydrogen being a near-perfect fuel for transportation, machinery operation, etc., as the byproduct of it's use is, quite frankly, pure water.

Despite having billions of years to evolve, the system plants use is at best about 1- 3% efficient, and the early models the Penn State scientists built claims only a fraction of that efficiency...0.3%. However, with the right nano-technology and semiconductor technology, they believe that efficiency could be increased well above the best that nature provides through plants...in the 10 - 30% range. This would enable the increased useage of hydrogen as a fuel at a price point comparable to that of current petrochemical fuels...and with a limitless abundance and the ability to to decrease costs regularly instead of the opposite situation we have today.

Awesome. It'd be nice to give something to future generations besides debt and dependancy on possibly hostile nations.

TODAY IN A LETTER TO THE EDITOR IN THE RALEIGH RAG A LADY WROTE ABOUT THE GMC EV1 ELECTRIC CAR THAT WOULD GO 100-120 MILES BEFORE IT NEEDED RECHARGING. GMC SOLD THE RIGHTS TO THE EV1 TO TEXACO AND RECALLED ALL OF THE CARS AND CRUSHED THEM. ED BEGLEY TRIED TO BUY ONE FROM GM FOR 50 THOUSAND BUCKS BUT THEY WOULD NOT SELL. THE NAME OF THE BATTERY IS OVONIC. THE GAS COMPANIES DON'T WANT TO HAVE GOOD MILEAGE FOR CARS. TRULY GREED AND CORRUPTION HAS WON AND THE USA AND THE WORLD IS ALL OVER BUT THE SHOUTING.

Doesn't that suck?! Probably a business decision for GM. I mean they haven't been doing very well. But you're right I guess about Texaco and greed.

I saw a documentary on the Discovery Channel about that a few months back; it was like a friggin' spy caper how they went about hauling off the cars to be destroyed...under dead of night, changing routes, giving out disinformation about what was really going on (they claimed that the cars were being taken to a facility for retrofitting with new technology even though the crushers were already waiting for them) and stuff...incredible. Not one of those cars remained in the hands of a private citizen.... They used bogus recalls and even the courts to get the ones back which had been in public hands.

I SUSPECT THE OIL COMPANIES AND THE OIL PRODUCING COUNTRIES MAY BE BANKROLLING THE SPECULATORS IN THE OIL MARKET. SLAP, DO YOU HAVE ANY TRUST FOR THE FOLKS WHO RUN THE ANY POWER BUSINESS? THIS FOLKS HAVE ABOUT DESTROYED THE ECONOMY OF THE USA. BIN LADINS GOALS HAVE BEEN MET WITHOUT MUCH COST THE HIM, THE BEST RATIO OF RETURNS I HAVE EVER READ OF IN HISTORY. HIS GOAL IS 200 DOLLARS/BBL OF OIL WHILE IT SEEMS THAT 100 DOLLARS/BBL MAY BUST THE WORLD ECONOMY. WITH WHAT I'VE SEEN LATELY I HAVE NO HOPE SLAP. MOST OF THE COMPANIES I PERSONALLY HAVE DONE BUSINESS LATELY ARE CORRUPT AND DISHONEST. THESE ARE MOSTLY MAJOR CORPS.
